Welcome to House of Amer — a 200-year-old haveli in the historic heart of Amer, Jaipur.

Once the home of the erstwhile Bakshi of the Royal Family of Jaipur, this beautiful old haveli has been a part of Amer’s history for generations. Today, it continues to be a home — not just a hotel — where travellers from around the world are invited to experience the warmth, simplicity and timeless charm of Rajasthan.

What makes House of Amer special is not simply its age or architecture. It is the feeling of staying in a place that has a story to tell.

This is our family home, and over the years we have opened its doors to travellers from across the world. We have consciously kept the atmosphere simple, welcoming and personal, so that when you arrive, you don’t feel like you are checking into a conventional hotel.

THE STORY OF AMER

Long Before Jaipur Became the Pink City, There Was Amer.

AMER 01

Nestled in the Aravalli hills, Amer is the historic capital from which the story of Jaipur grew.

For centuries, Amer was the seat of the Kachhwaha Rajputs and the capital of the Dhundhar region. Its history stretches back many centuries before the foundation of Jaipur in 1727, when Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II established the new planned city on the plains. The decision to move the capital from Amer to Jaipur was driven largely by the growing population and the limited space for expansion within Amer’s hilly terrain.

This makes Amer fundamentally different from Jaipur. Jaipur is an extraordinary 18th-century planned city; Amer is the older historic capital and the royal landscape from which that new city emerged.

The two are closely connected, but Amer carries layers of Rajput history, architecture, temples, fortifications, havelis and traditions that pre-date the founding of Jaipur by centuries.

THE ROYAL LANDSCAPE

The Magnificent Amer Fort

At the centre of this heritage stands the magnificent Amer Fort, the former royal seat of the Kachhwaha rulers. The palace complex was developed over generations, with Raja Man Singh I beginning the major construction of the present palace in 1592, followed by successive rulers who expanded and embellished it.

Its courtyards, gateways, palaces, temples, gardens, intricate stonework, marble and mirror work reflect the remarkable evolution of Rajput and Mughal court architecture.

Amer Fort forms part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed for the outstanding testimony these forts provide to Rajput power, architecture, culture and traditions.

Amber is specifically recognised by UNESCO as an important example of the development of the Rajput-Mughal court style.

The Heritage of Amer Continues

But the heritage of Amer does not end at the fort gates.

The town surrounding the fort is filled with historic streets, old havelis, temples and traditional neighbourhoods. Visitors can explore Jaigarh Fort, dramatically positioned above Amer; Panna Meena ka Kund, one of the area’s historic stepwells; the beautiful Jagat Shiromani Temple; Maota Lake; the old temples and gateways of Amer; and the traditional streets where the character of the historic town can still be experienced.
